How to Deal with Stress

According to reports from the NHS, psychological problems, including stress, anxiety and depression, are the cause for one in five visits to a GP.

Racing hearts, palpitations, dry mouth, headaches, aches and pains, loss of appetites and inability to concentrate are all symptoms that stress may be getting the best of you.

Stress can also bring about bad habits which people feel relieve stress but actually exacerbate problems. For example, smoking or drinking may feel relaxing at the time but they actually put your body and mind under more stress.

Good stress management and pre-emptive treatment is critical for health and happiness. Here are some tips to help you get your stress levels under control this spring:

Find time to unwind.

Even if it is just for a few minutes in your daily routine, find a way to steal some time to do something which you find relaxing. It could be a bath, reading a good book, meditating or taking a walk. Contracting and releasing your muscles one by one can be a great way to let go of tension. Our Peace of Mind Body Wrap includes a back massage, body wrap and face and scalp massage to relieve aching bodies.

Get a good night’s sleep.

Sometimes, worrying about our stress levels stresses us out. Who has not lain awake trying to get to sleep only to find the more you try the less your brain will shut off. Lack of sleep can contribute to feelings of anxiety, tension and other health issues. Having a regular bedtime routine can help you sail away to the land of nod. Try going to bed and waking up at the same time daily and avoid doing any stimulating activities (watching t.v, using the computer) just before bed. Our Blissful Slumber Massage is a soporific full body massage designed to encourage the body to restore its natural sleep patterns.

Breathe deeply

When stress and panic take hold try this breathing technique:

  • Breathe in for four
  • Hold for four
  • Breathe out for four
  • Hold for four

Use some soothing aromatherapy oils on your pulse points to really relax you. Our Aromatherapy Massage is a nurturing, aromatic massage treatment using essential oils with healing properties.
