By now your Janurary fitness resolutions probably feel like a life-time ago. We all need some extra motivation to keep going. A former elite athlete, Ravi is head of the gym at Grayshott Spa and has been advising guests on how to improve their fitness for nearly 20 years. Below are his top tips to keep motivated in your exercise routine.
Exercise with a partner or friend
I encourage my clients to find someone to exercise with as a way to keep motivated. Not only does it enhance your overall experience, but can help you achieve better results than exercising alone – as you are also less likely to find an excuse not to exercise if you are committed to working out with a friend or partner. I also think that choosing someone who is slightly above your fitness level makes you push yourself a little harder during training.
Evaluate your Goals
My greatest method of motivating clients is to ask them to look into a full length mirror and tell me if they are happy with their reflection. I find this always works! Sometimes just taking a couple of minutes to evaluate your goals is all you need. Although the best motivation is when clients start to see results; their clothes fit better, they feel healthier and have lots more energy.
Whilst at Grayshott Spa why not book a Body Composition Analysis and/or fitness training session with one of our team, who will develop a bespoke exercise programme to suit your needs?
Muscles first
I always encourage clients to work on their muscles first, and then do their cardio at the end of your workout. If you warm the muscles up first with weight based training it will make the cardio aspect appear easier. However working out the other way around will make the muscles tired and the workout will seem harder on the body and it will then be more difficult to achieve your workout goals.
